Tech's state funding should get even tighter

Texas Tech can expect yet steeper cuts to its state funding in the next few years.
Gov. Rick Perry is asking state institutions to make deeper budget cuts than originally requested earlier this year.
Instead of the originally proposed 5-percent cuts to state entities -- including Texas Tech -- Austin is now asking for another 10 percent, bringing the total cuts to 15 percent over the next two years.
Tech has already submitted a plan for reducing its operating budget by about $13 million over the next two years, as per the original request. Across the university system, the 5-percent was expected to inflict about $30 million in reductions.
