From an email:
"Earlier this morning, Hank's mom, Mrs. Sybil Gilbert, passed away after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Hank often spoke of his mom on the stump, noting that she was a strong Union member when she worked for General Electric, and about what a fine job she and his dad raising Hank and his brothers and sisters.
Many of you have already contacted the campaign to share your condolences with Hank after hearing the news, and we wanted to take a moment and say "thank you" to each of you who have done so.
As a result of Mrs. Gilbert's passing, Hank will not be attending the Texas Democratic Party Convention in Corpus Christi this weekend, as he remains in East Texas with his family as they hold services for and celebrate the life of Mrs. Gilbert.
Hank asked us to let all of his supporters know that, although he won't be with us in Corpus Christi, that his thoughts will be with us, and that he looks forward to seeing many of you on the campaign trail in your home counties very soon. Kind volunteers will join our campaign staff in manning Hank's booth at the convention, and surrogates from across the state will be addressing Senate District Caucuses on Hank's behalf. State Representative Senfronia Thompson (D-Houston), will be delivering Hank's speech to the convention delegates on Saturday.
Many people who have contacted the campaign have asked what they can do as a gesture of remembrance for Mrs. Gilbert or to help Hank's family know that they are in their thoughts and prayers. As many of Hank's staff members have also been touched by Alzheimer's Disease through relatives that suffer from this condition, we are encouraging those who desire to make a contribution in memory of Mrs. Gilbert to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. You can contribute online here, or you may text AFA to 50555 on your mobile phone to make a $5 donation to the foundation. You may also visit the online guestbook for Mrs. Gilbert via Rader Funeral Home, and offer your condolences to the family.
Thanks again for keeping Hank, Karla, Peyton and Cody in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
In Unity,
Vince Leibowitz"
Sincerest condolences to Hank and his family. I'm very sorry for their loss.
