Sweet Susan Sarandon! I'm on the State Resolutions Committee!
I just got elected by the 16th Senatorial at the State Convention in Corpus Christi a couple of hours ago. I am still in awe that I made it this far.

Where's that blogger's caucus tonight, again? I want to celebrate with all of you!

4. I'm not there Derby
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 08:19 PM by sonias
I had to give up my delegate badge to a very worthy alternate. My sister and Mom decided they would visit this weekend. Had to catch up with family. I am with you in spirit though. You say hello to the whole DU crew. I know PDittie and JohnColby and Wolvie should all be there. You'll be in good company.

Have fun!

6. Congrats Derby!!!
And congrats on getting diversity in the gun owners caucus!!! :yourock:

(for those who weren't there, Derby was re-elected president, then said they needed "diversity" if they wanted on the exec committee, so every other officer is a woman! ) I almost threw my hat in the ring for parlimentarian or at large or whatever the tie-breaker office is cuz no one else was volunteering. Kinda funny since I don't own a gun.

9. and one of the wimmins is :gasp:
black. The treasurer is also a pistol. :)

So much for gun owners being old, fat, white male redneck Republicans!!! Too bad Dems seem to run from guns, because the gun owners caucus officers could pretty much blow that stereotype out of the water.

(I managed to sit quietly in the background at the 23rd caucus and successfully avoided getting elected to anything).

13. That would have been me this year too
The 2008 nominations committee burned me up quick. Once you serve once, it's good to let others step up and take part too. It's great to learn the process and get a feel for how much volunteer work goes into running the party.

I salute all the hard working party people at the CC convention this year.

If you're reading this while they're still taking the vote on the Texas Two-Step, wave! I'm down here at the entrance to 107/108.

17. It's all over - and I'm pooped
Only ran into two DUers at the convention this time, but they're both good'uns - WolverineDG and Jeff Weems, Democratic candidate for Railroad Commisioner.

We slogged our way through quite a few resolutions today. It got a bit heated at times, but not on my end. At least I didn't compete for a spot on the Rules Committee; I would've been in a world of hurt.

I should be out on the beach. Unfortunately, I left my swimsuit at home, so I'm holed up in my hotel room tonight with the laptop and a bag of campaign swag I need to go through. Think I'll pull out my plush donkey first - I miss my wife, my cats are hundreds of miles away, and I need a little friend.

My convention experience was awesome. Now I can actually shift into vacation mode for a few days. :bounce:

18. Aw, it was great meeting you
You had a bigger turn-out than I thought you might have. :) I got sick of the speeches & headed out about 30 minutes too early for the voting, but I knew what direction it was headed in based on what happened in my SD the night before (basically Richard Raymond trying to sell a load of BS & getting called on it by delegates from San Antonio). My fave was when he "warned" that keeping the 2 part system would make Texas "not important" to the DNC. And yes, he said it with a straight face.

Good to hear the Hillary resolution failed.

20. Good! Hope that kills it off for good
I actually turned a couple of votes by asking how would delegates be chosen if there wasn't a caucus & since the people who wanted to change it (sore losers essentially) hadn't suggested something to put in its place, I wasn't going to vote for changing the system.

That set off a few

21. I made that point, too...
...at breakfast at the Super 8! Every morning, there was a "Super 8 Caucus," and I got one of the Hillary supporters to see that point, that the 2-step process makes it more fair in choosing delegates. I also told her who explained the process to me--Dennis Kucinich, in 2004, when he was drumming up support for his Department of Peace resolution to be presented at the precinct caucuses.

(Back then, I also heard Howard Dean explain it--on the steps of Dallas City Hall, no less--as he encouraged us activists to get involved in the party).

I still wonder why, since those two out-of-staters knew all about it in 2004, the Hillary team didn't motivate their people to stay with the process like the Obama team did. At my precinct convention, there were more Hillary supporters, but as precinct chair I found it difficult to motivate them to attend the senatorial & state conventions. And these weren't the "hardship" cases, either, elderly people or those with job conflicts that the other side is always talking about. They just didn't want to put any more time into it after the precinct caucus.

So I'm glad the 2-step stays. Hopefully, the other side learned a little bit more about the process and will stay involved all the way through for the candidate they support.

22. Hillary knew Texas was a "2 step" state
she made a big deal about being down here in the 70s to register Hispanics to vote (which was why they "owed" her so much, when really she & Bill did next to nothing for them while he was in office) & she campaigned here in 92, when Bill used the process to sweep up the nomination. So saying that she was "unaware" of the system & that's what made it "unfair" was complete & total BS from the start.

If you read "Game Change," you'll see the team she put together didn't do much except damage control & put knives in each other's backs. If she really wanted to be president, she'd have put people in there who knew what they were doing & were willing to stay on top of things. Yeah, I want someone like that to be my president. :eyes:
