On the baseball diamond, Barton-led Republicans falter

For the second year in a row, the GOP congressional baseball squad coached by Rep. Joe Barton lost to their Democratic counterparts in the annual congressional baseball game.

Tuesday's game first appeared to be a nail-biter--tied 4-4 after six innings of play--but it ended up a rout. The Democrats scored nine runs in the seventh (and final) inning; Republicans could answer with only one additional run, leaving the final score 13-5.

The Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game gives members of Congress a chance to don caps and gloves and bring their political rivalries to the baseball field. The game was played at Nationals Park in Washington and proceeds from the game went to charity.

Sweeeeet! Way to go Oily Joe! Keep up the good work for your team! Oily Joe was also awarded "BP All-Star" by an environmental group! :fistbump:

Hope this is a sign of your success in the Nov. elections!

:kick: for the Dems that rallied in the 7th inning and kicked some Republican tail!

:woohoo: :bounce: :woohoo: :bounce:

Congress Hammers Out Differences On Baseball Diamond (VIDEO)

Displaying a solid lack of fundamentals -- on the field -- the Democrats somehow managed to beat the Republicans -- again, field. The annual charity game was filled with terrible smack talk and muffed grounder after muffed grounder.

When all was said -- like, "It's one of the best things we do in Congress"-- the Dems had prevailed 13-5. They'd knocked around Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) -- still, on the field -- during the fifth inning, which is a fitting fate for the man that kinda-sorta tried to hide the whole Mark Foley-emailing-pages thing, and by the end they'd reduced the Republicans to running futilely to their base. On the field, I mean.

Watch the great video clip on the TPM website. It's only a short 1:47 minutes. Very good!

Too bad they didn't pick up Oily Joe apologizing to baseball!

:kick:

#14 in the slideshow:

Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), who managed the Republican team, perhaps apologizing to the umpire?
