But what is most interesting are the comments to an article in the local paper, in which Minutemen/Tea Baggers insist that the paper is trying to hide something because the editor is a Mexican, that we don't know what is going on in our own town (por favor, Laredo is filled with chismosas, so if Mines Road was shut down, everyone would know it), and that Minutemen/Tea Baggers aren't racist (despite their repeated claims that Mexican are hiding the news & that the editor should move back to Mexico where she belongs). LAREDO — Local law enforcement was bombarded with calls from across the country Saturday asking about a report that the Zetas had taken over two ranches off Mines Road.

But officials with the Laredo Police Department, Webb County Sheriff's Department and Border Patrol said they knew nothing about such an incident, while Erik Vasys, an FBI spokesman in San Antonio, said the agency does not comment on rumors.

“The public would be the first to know if anything was going on,” said Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar on Sunday afternoon. “Our deputies went out there and talked to ranch owners in the area and found nothing.”

The report that the Zetas, the Gulf Cartel's former enforcers, had taken over two Laredo ranches appeared to have initially surfaced around 10 a.m. Saturday on the blog Diggers Realm.

This is the same kind of crap that right wing blogger Andrew Breitbart is peddling. Shoot first and research never. Some over zealous blogger thinks he has a hot tip, but it's hot air. He runs with it anyway fanning the flames of hatred. Either way they get their pound of flesh because lame ass media like Fox News and Glenn Beck give it credibility with the tea bagger types. :eyes;

In a modern-day version of "regulating," Mexican ranchers, villagers, farmers are being warned to vacate the land or face -- well, you can figure that out. All this to create a free-fire for smuggling operations.

Kim Dvorak, a conservative reporter in San Diego, has published a police message that she claims is evidence that a Mexican drug cartel really did invade the country in July and take control of two remote ranches near Laredo, Texas. And while local law enforcement says the message proves nothing, Dvorak's latest report does provide clues to how the whole story came to life in the first place.

Dvorak was one of the two bloggers who originally reported the story, which was denied by law enforcement, and then debunked. But Dvorak always stood by the story, and pledged to return with proof.

Juarez is supposed to be under control of the Mexican Feds, yet the drug lords still control the city. The best armed people in Juarez are drug lords. Juarez has a gun ban and a murder rate of about 120 per 100,000. In el paso the best armed people are the law abiding and there are almost no restrictions on gun ownership and the lowest murder rate in the US at 2.12 per 100,000 while we have more guns than people in el paso. The populations of el paso and Juarez are similar and highly mixing.

do you count the drug dealers killing each other as cartel violence since they are a part of the cartel, network and work for and with the cartels, at the beginning of this summer we had a running gun battle that ended up with drug dealer crashing into a van killing a local teacher..does that count? plus countless drug related gang killings and drive bys and all that kinda fun stuff.
Recently the zetas and ms-13 have joined forces so now anything that ms-13 does could be considered cartel violence spill over.....
