Rick Perry Compares Texas Border to Nazi Germany
Burnt Orange Report 8/10/10
Rick Perry Compares Texas Border to Nazi Germany

He's flirted with secession. He's said Obama's administration was "hell-bent" on socialism. He's made Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck honorary Texans. But until now, Rick Perry has stayed away from the sort of rabid and patently insane remarks about Nazi Germany that many of his fellow Republicans on the fringe right tend to embrace.

Scratch Nazi Germany and September 11 fear-mongering off the list.

Perry will do anything to fear monger his way to his crazy insane base!

This is the story that Phillip Martin at BOR linked to:
Texas Tribune 8/9/10
Perry Calls Troops to Border a "Fraud" After Visit With Obama

Gov. Rick Perry on Monday called the recent deployment of 286 National Guard troops to Texas a "fraud" and said Texans should look to history to fully appreciate the extent of the danger lurking south of the border.

"Do we think about looking back to the 1930s in Europe, the South Pacific in late 1941 or even the United States in early September of 2001? There were early warning signs in all of those time frames that were ignored. Too many lives were needlessly lost," he said in a speech he delivered as part of the Texas Public Policy Foundation's Lone Star Issues series. “We ignore the current warning signs along our international border at our own peril."

Oh brother, Perry is losing it. You know if he's so scared of being Governor, he should step aside and let a real leader like Bill White take over and do the job. I'm sure Bill can hit the ground running, while Perry goes and hides under his desk.

1. I think he's losing it, also. But, as you stated, fear-mongering...
Edited on Tue Aug-10-10 02:30 PM by kjackson227
is what they do best. I'm just curious if there are any DUers in Houston, Corpus, Laredo, or even San Antonio who will clarify/verify what Slick Rick is saying about the crime and/or drug cartel problems south of the border? I just don't hear or see it on the news channels here in Dallas. Maybe because there aren't any?

She posted a good thread about the Zetas rumor a couple of weeks ago. Highly exaggerated by the right wing media. :eyes:

So, you may have heard that rumor about the Zetas taking over ranches

6. Perry was lying that the border drop in crime rate was all his doing
PotifactCheck 3/16/10
Gov. Rick Perry says his border security efforts led to 60-percent drop in crime along Texas-Mexico border

(snip)
Summing up: Perry's claim that his border security efforts have led to a 60 percent drop in crime doesn't hold water. The calculation he touts doesn't consider crimes committed in cities and towns where most border residents live. It also compared two calendar quarters rather than weighing years' worth of data.

Crime may have temporarily subsided in some rural areas of the border region.

However, it's not clear how much of any decline can be traced to the state's investment in security.

We rate Perry's sweeping statement based on an unreasonable manipulation of crime statistics -- the second instance of his administration touting questionable border crime numbers -- as Pants on Fire.

Pants on Fire Liar Perry.

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.

7. The 'Dangerous' Border: Actually One of America's Safest Places
Time Magazine 7/30/10
The 'Dangerous' Border: Actually One of America's Safest Places

According to the FBI, the four large U.S. cities (with populations of at least 500,000) with the lowest violent crime rates — San Diego, Phoenix and the Texas cities of El Paso and Austin — are all in border states. "The border is safer now than it's ever been," U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Lloyd Easterling told the Associated Press last month. Even Larry Dever, the sheriff of Arizona's Cochise County, where the murder last March of a local rancher, believed to have been committed by an illegal immigrant, sparked calls for the law, conceded to the Arizona Republic recently that "we're not seeing the that's going on on the other side."

9. Obama looks like he wants to pass Perry off to someone
Hey Ron can you help the Governor here mail this important letter. You know where to send it right? :P

By the way that's Senator Kirk Watson, the President has his hand on. He's a real friend of Texas. And I think that's Representative Mark Strama with his back to us by Senator Watson. I can't see the other person with white hair, but I'm guessing it's Mayor Lee Leffingwell.

And the Ron I'm referring to is Ron Kirk who is walking down the plane stairs. Former Mayor of Dallas now Obama's United States Trade Representative. A native Texan and Austinite!

13. Exactly! Which is why I asked the question in a previous post...
I think President Obama gave him the "brush off" because it was mentioned on the news here in Dallas that Obama and Slick Rick were going to have a short meeting on Air Force One. Maybe the President was running a little behind schedule, and didn't have time (wink-wink).

Perry defends spurning White House briefing invite

Gov. Rick Perry wants the White House to make a better offer on talking with Texas about border security.

A National Security Council briefing? Not good enough.

Perry said Tuesday that he declined a border-security briefing from the security council — a high-level panel chaired by President Barack Obama and key Cabinet members — because he "doesn't need to meet with some more down-level staff people."

Who the hell is Perry calling a down-level staff person? President Obama and key Cabinet members like Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security! What an arrogant bastard Perry is!

16. Soo, Perry now decides to thumb his nose down at the same committee...
that decides whether or not he gets the aid he supposedly needs? Not very smart... but we knew that about him, anyway.

17. Perry is a grandstanding idiot!
He never takes any responsibility and always quick to pass the blame to someone else. The worst kind of politician! Plus he's just a clueless fraidy man. He's got nothing - so he won't debate White on substantial issues. He just tries to scare the winger base with talk of war on the border.
