Consumer poll shows Perry, White essentially tied
http://blogs.chron.com/texaspolitics/archives/2010/09/consunmer_poll.html

A new survey commissioned by the consumer watchdog group Texas Watch has found Gov. Rick Perry and Democrat Bill White in a statistical tie in the governor's race.

Texas Watch promotes insurance reforms often supported by Texas trial lawyers, but the survey was done by a respected Republican polling firm: Hill Research Consultants of The Woodlands. The survey of 600 registered voters was done Aug. 25-29 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

The poll found Perry leading 42 percent to White's 41 percent, a statistical tie. Neither the Libertarian nor the Green Party candidates were listed on the poll...

4. Awesome
I hope voters start to think about what Perry is saying, what he's really saying. They'll vote for White easily if they do.

Perry not debating White? Perry's saying that democracy and choice don't matter, that he knows what's best for every voter.

Not debating because White won't release his taxes? Perry's saying democracy comes with conditions, it's not a right due to us naturally.

I also love Perry's response to White's border plan, that it's essentially the governor's plan. If that's totally true, then Perry is admitting he's taking money from Texans for his own uses. After all, a proposal of White's to pay for border security program is to reduce the GOVERNOR'S security detail and the GOVERNOR'S advertising.

Oh, and that gem about being in a state where you can get a job, not marry a person of the same sex? He's telling Texans he'll be your governor, but only if you're the RIGHT kind of Texan. And it's looking like for Perry that the right kind of Texan is one who gets him rich. Everyone else can screw off!

8. Perry Leads White 39-33 in September
Texas Tribune 9/13/10
Perry Leads White 39-33 in September UT/TT Poll

Republican Gov. Rick Perry leads his Democratic challenger, Bill White, by 6 percentage points — 39 percent to 33 percent — in the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll. Libertarian Kathie Glass has the support of 5 percent of the Texans in the survey; Green Party candidate Deb Shafto gets 1 percent. And 22 percent of respondents — more than one in five Texans — say they’re undecided about which candidate to support with only seven weeks to go in the fall campaign.

Clearly, the natives are restless: In addition to the high percentage of undecided voters up and down the ballot, the poll also found that third-party candidates are capturing enough of the vote to affect the outcomes of some statewide contests. And 31 percent of respondents — nearly one in three Texans — consider themselves part of the Tea Party movement.

“White has not yet faded and remains in striking distance of Perry,” says Daron Shaw, a government professor at the University of Texas who oversees the UT/Tribune poll with his colleague Jim Henson. “The downside for White is that Perry is up by 18 points among those who say they are extremely likely to vote. White needs a big turnout among young voters and minorities to be competitive."

"Perry by 6 in Volatile Race" is also the other story byline for this poll. Still good news.

11. Welcome back, Sonias! This is good news, but I would REALLY...
like to see a debate. I think I heard on WFAA this morning that Perry has given White a deadline for tomorrow to release his tax returns. I know that Slick Rick keeps moving the goal posts, but hopefully White will release them.
