Lawmakers’ group offered UT stadium tour in return for donations

A group of conservative state lawmakers offered a private tour of Royal-Memorial Stadium with the president of the University of Texas in an effort to drum up donations to the group.

But the Texas Conservative Coalition limited participation in the tour with UT President William Powers Jr. to lawmakers after the American-Statesman asked university officials about the arrangement.

(snip)
An e-mail from the coalition offered the Nov. 16 tour to people who donate $2,500 to a breakfast fundraiser for the coalition that day.

(snip)
The breakfast, which will include remarks by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, will be at the University of Texas Club, a private dining and business club that leases space in the stadium complex from UT.

You gotta pay to play at the Lege. And the money goes only to R candidates of course.

Another example of what the conservatives have learned from Rick Perry and republicans - put all of Texas' assets for sale, or at least toll them. I notice that Powers didn't raise a stink and clarify UT's position until the Statesman called UT on it.

1. That's because he was in on the deal until it became public.

2. That's what I was thinking too
On a related note Texans for Public Justice just put out a report showing that Perry gets what are essentially kickback contributions from people he appoints to boards and universtiy regents. In other words, they give contributions to thank their master. One can only guess what the regents make off of their board seat.

One in five Perry campaign dollars comes from appointees, TPJ says

(snip)
Texans for Public Justice is releasing a report today that claims Gov. Rick Perry has raised $17 million from his appointees and their spouses since 2001. That accounts for one out of every five dollars Perry has raised in that time.

The share of Perry campaign dollars that comes from appointees is about the same as it was in 2006. An earlier version of the TPJ report said that four years ago, one in 10 dollars came from appointees, instead of one in five. But TPJ officials say they are updating their numbers with the correct information.

The appointees who have given Perry the most are those he has appointed to the Parks and Wildlife Commission, the Texas A&M System Board of Regents, the Inaurgural Committee and the University of Texas Board of Regents.

4. Wendy and Phil Gramm are two of the sleaziest financial criminals in the world
They are at the top of the list of people who cause the financial meltdown. Both should be in jail instead of serving on the board of regents of any university.

They practically bought Perry for one whole year, when they bought him for $610,000 in 2002.

7. Terry Prattchett in The Last Continent had the right idea
'Why did he have to go to prison?'
'We put all our politicians in prison as soon as they're elected. Don't you?'
'Why?'
'It saves time.'
