1. My condolences to the Hartley family
Here's the story from the McAllen Monitor
McAllen Monitor 9/30/10
McAllen man presumed dead after pirate shooting on Falcon Lake

September 30, 2010 10:00 PM

ZAPATA — Law enforcement officials here gave up their search for the body of a McAllen man presumed dead after pirates shot him and toward his wife on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake.

Investigators believe David Michael Hartley, 30, died after he was shot in the back of the head as he and his wife fled from three approaching boats, said Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez.

Tiffany Hartley, 29, swung her personal watercraft around in an attempt to retrieve her husband’s body but had to leave it in order to escape the continuing onslaught of bullets.

“The boats actually followed her back past the (United States) boundary,” Gonzalez said. “They acted very boldly.”

4. who knows. unless there are witnesses, the most likely assumption

is that the woman murdered her husband.

9. yup
the media glosses over most of this stufff in a lame attempt to downplay what actually goes on, because people in the states just wanna believe that things like this are not really happening...

10. my sense is that people in the states really want to believe stuff like this
is going on, much more than it actually is.

Just saw an ABC news story on this, and again no mention of witnesses, just an interview with the sheriff.

The woman hired a security force? And scheduled then canceled a news conference?

FISHY stuff.

12. wtf?

You just linked to a story about a drug cartel killing. I was saying 8 years ago that the "insurgency" and "terrorism" the American president should be focusing on is happening just south of our border.

lol, I thought when I saw "here ya go", you were going to link me to a mention of witnesses to THIS story.
You know, the one we are actually talking about.

who do you think you are, Stephen Colbert? I get my fear from the best. :7

13. all I am saying
is that crossover violence has been nad continues to happen down here, but since we live south of the laredo, san antonio, corpus arc....in the eyes of washington and the rest of the states we really dont matter much!! now if a couple of Texans had shot some mexicans and tried to rob them then the doj would get fire breathing mad and make a big to do over it!!

14. I don't agree with one word of your post

there is nothing about where you live that makes the rest of the country think the people of south Texas "really don't matter much".

In fact, about half the country is looking for a fight with mexicans, and wants to believe the worst. See Arizona for instance.

if a couple of Texans had shot some Mexicans, then I would certainly hope the doj would take it every bit as seriously as if Texans had shot other Texans. Are you saying they shouldn't?

As it is, are you inferring that the doj or Federal government should be trying to gin up fear over this? What else should they be doing?

I'll tell you one thing that SHOULD be being done by whatever authorities have jurisdiction: they SHOULD be making sure that this woman's story checks out. Because this would be *such* a convenient way to get away with murder, were someone inclined to do so.

16. We MUST look at this realistically...
Edited on Mon Oct-04-10 07:36 AM by kjackson227
and hopefully no one is using the Mexican drug cartel "POLITICALLY" one way or the other because people's lives are at stake. If there is actually violence bleeding over into Texas, then the Obama administration does need to hear from more of us regarding this problem. I'm not saying that Texas should take the law into its own hands same as Arizona, but because Rick Perry doesn't have good communication (due to his own stupidity) with the WH, the administration probably doesn't take him (Perry) seriously. This is one of the reasons why we need White as governor. On the other hand, I'm hoping and thinking that Napolitano is kept informed about this sort of thing, and will act if needed.

Wife: Pirates are hiding my husband’s body
Tiffany Hartley recalls being ambushed by men she believes were Mexican pirates and surviving the barrage of bullets she says claimed her husband’s life on Texas’ border-straddling Lake Falcon.

19. I'm not sure. But, Meredith did say that there have been other reports...
of robberies at that lake. On the other hand, I seriously doubt that the so-called pirates has her husband's dead body. I guess it's possible, but why would they bother to steal it?
