Redistricting. And so it begins....
Come down if you can. Not that they will likely listen any better than last time, but at least we will show up and give them what for.

A letter from Lloyd Doggett:

November 16, 2010

Dear Melissa:

I am writing you with this important news: tomorrow, Wednesday, November 17 a hearing will be held on redistricting Austin.

The hearing will be held at the Texas State Capitol, Underground Extension, in Hearing Room E1.030, at 10:00 a.m. and will continue for a few hours.

Every citizen has a right to attend and to be heard. You can testify in person or you can provide written testimony.

You recall prior efforts to limit our community's voice. If you would like more information about how to make your voice heard, please contact Amanda Lopez at 512-916-5921.

Sincerely,

Lloyd

2. Yep, I'm going. Typical no notice meeting. They will probably change the room
and then the time. All the old tricks.
It's probably gonna go on for hours like last time in case you can shake free later. I'm taking off for two hours in the morning. Hopefully, I'll get my two cents in within that time frame. PM me your cell and maybe we can coordinate, if you think you can make it.

3. Texans can mail in their comments in written form.
This person can probably tell you how. The office is closed right now or I would post the info. Contact Amanda Lopez at 512-916-5921.

5. For sending written testimony
Send it to the attention of
Gregory Watson
Committee on Redistricting
Texas House of Representatives
PO Box 2910
Austin Texas 78768
(512)463-9948

They are taking testimony until late December.
Please send them your comments. I testified about keeping communities of interest together and not slicing Travis County into a pie that extends to the borders.

I was disappointed on how poorly attended this meeting was compared to previous meetings. Doggett's aide said they didi not get the message earlier because it just went to their general mail and with the holiday it did not get noticed until yesterday. Please mail in your testimony or get to a hearing.
