Hutchison won't seek another term in the U.S. Senate
DMN 1/13/11
It's time for a new person,' U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison says

Kay Bailey Hutchison said today that she will not seek another term in the U.S. Senate.

“I have known since 2006 that I wouldn’t seek another term,” the senator said in a telephone interview. “I wanted to announce it on my own terms and in my own way

Hutchison, first elected to the Senate in 1993, said the swearing-in of the new Congress, among other things, made her feel it was the right moment to announce her resignation.

She predicted that her departure from the political scene would set off a rampage of candidates looking to replace her.

“It’s just time for people to start making their plans,” Hutchison said. “Now it’s time for a new person.”

Great she's finally sticking to the promise she made during her first run that she would only serve 2 terms! :eyes:

1. Hutchison won’t run again in 2012
Postcards from the Lege blog 1/13/11
Hutchison won’t run again in 2012

(snip from her letter)

When my current term is up, I will have served Texas for 19 years in the United States Senate. I intended to leave this office long before now, but I was persuaded to continue in order to avoid disadvantage to our state. The last two years have been particularly difficult, especially for my family, but I felt it would be wrong to leave the Senate during such a critical period. Instead of putting my seat into a special election, I felt it was my duty to use my experience to fight the massive spending that has increased our national debt; the government takeover of the our health care system; and the growth of the federal bureaucracy, which threatens our economy. I will continue that fight until the end of my term in 2012.

2. Texas Sen. Hutchison Won't Run Again In 2012
Talking Points Memo 1/13/11
Texas Sen. Hutchison Won't Run Again In 2012

(snip)
Hutchison challenged incumbent Gov. Rick Perry in the 2010 Republican primary, and had even started out as something of a favorite. But by the time primary day rolled around, Perry had parlayed anti-Washington sentiment to win a landslide 51%-30% victory over Hutchison. (Another 19% went to Debra Medina, a far-right Tea Party activist who had dabbled in birtherism, trutherism, and other such nuttiness.)

During that primary race, Hutchison had even indicated that she would resign her seat in order to focus on the primary, but ultimately changed her plans and remained in the Senate.

3. TX-Sen: Kay Bailey Hutchison Announces She Won't Run for Re-Election in 2012
Burnt Orange Report 1/13/11
TX-Sen: Kay Bailey Hutchison Announces She Won't Run for Re-Election in 2012

(snip)
Update by KT: The TDP released the following statement in response to the news.

“Kay Bailey Hutchison has changed her mind about retirement so many times, she could be known as the Brett Favre of the Senate. Assuming this time she’s serious, it is good news for Texas families, who Sen. Hutchison has failed to adequately represent. Just in recent weeks, her vote against the DREAM Act and vote to maintain “don’t ask, don’t tell” shows her unwillingness to look beyond partisan politics to support smart policy.

“Texas is a growing state and our gain of four new congressional seats puts us in the national spotlight. On Election Day 2012, we will offer Texas voters a Democratic U.S. Senate candidate whose dedication to our state would never be in question.”

"the Brett Favre of the Senate"

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
