So where is the power outage map now?

Having one family member who is still affected by the post-storm power outage in Seattle, as well as countless co-workers who straggled in Friday after waking to no power-no heat-trees down and live wires to avoid, I have been watching the map that City Light posted on its web site with some interest.
In fact, my interest was really caught by two things--today it looked like virtually the whole north end had been brought back to the 21st century, but it also appeared that the south end had improved very little.
I was talking to a couple of friends about how stupidly lacking in common sense it was to focus on the north end, i.e., not very politically astute, when lo and behold, no more map! They have pulled it. Of course, there are articles about restoration of power, and all that--but I still think it would be interesting to see just what the progress in S. and W. Seattle are.

This is not to take away from the mountain of hard work the utility and its crews have put in in the past 48 hours. They have definitely done yeoman's work.

Someone probably figured out that the decision-makers were going to have some 'splainin' to do.

1. Well, spindrifter, we all know that the "right kind of people" live

in the north end, and the "wrong kind of people" (that would include me) live in the south end -- lots of different colors of people live in the south end, you know. :sarcasm:

It is interesting that they took the map down.

And, btw, my sarcastic remark is in no way directed at the good, decent people who live in the north end. I do think that more attention is paid toward that end of Seattle, and has been for the longest time. I live in the Rainier Beach area -- have lived here for 13 years -- and I and lots of my neighbors think that the city pays more attention to those living up north.

3. I think they took the map down precisely

because it was so obvious they were fixing the north end first! My daughter in the wilds of Capital Hill still has no power. There are pockets of people who have been reduced to low priority for various reasons. Her "pocket" is probably 100 or so residents.

2. Woodinville was still out when I went through this afternoon (Sat)

Pretty much the whole business area was out. I know there were significant problems in Bothell as well but I don't know what the status is there. I lost power for about 5 hours in Snohomish and I know some of my neighbors are still out. It's getting cold out there.

6. I haven't seen how much damage there is in some of the other areas

but out here in the hills above Duvall, we have massive damage and I don't think it has anything at all to do with the economic or color of us mountain folk - we are going to get low priority because the cities have far more people. It seems right to me and while I get grumpy from time to time, I don't feel slighted in the least. They will get here when they can. I do hope that all of my fellow Duvall Hillites have stoves and fireplaces because it's been getting damn cold up here!

5. My daughter still has no power on Capital Hill

and we ran into another friend who lives in Madrona--no power at her place. The gas station near us has no power (N. 45th). I am glad the linesmen have been able to work as quickly as they have, but I know it is hard on the folks who have been left in the dark.
