Mystery dust baffles residents ( related to the "orange snow" in Asia? )

REDMOND, Wash. - Residents around Puget Sound were baffled Sunday when a thin layer of ash-like powder suddenly appeared, coating their cars and homes.
Redmond is just one of the places where people spotted the mystery dust. Residents near Carnation, Gig Harbor and Kingston also reported seeing it.

Dave and Edith Creed of Maple Valley were mystified when they discovered the thin layer of dust coating their truck, SUV and camper. On some surfaces, the dust seems to turn orange and, mixed with some moisture, it formed circles, they said.


"We've never seen anything like this," said David Creed.

About 30 miles away, residents in Lake Marcel north of Carnation awoke Sunday to the fine powder blanketing the neighborhood.

"Living out here in 40 years, I've never seen anything like it," said Beth Marcey.

"Kind of volcanic. It reminded me of when Mount St. Helens blew," said Bey Braun.

Above all, it has everyone scratching their heads.

"We're just kind of hoping someone out there knows what it is," said Marcey.

I was looking for a story posted not long ago about an area in ( Russia? ) that had some orange tainted snow fall.


....not to be confused with yellow snow of course,

It makes you wonder if the government is "experiementing" with us again.

2. Rather than scratching their heads, why don't people gather up

several good, representative samples of the stuff and get it analyzed by a reliable, independent lab (like some university chemistry and microbiology departments. I would suggest they contact the EPA, but that woud be pointless and silly.

Here's an idea: call 911 and report the "strange powder", and the local emergency folks will be all over it PDQ.

But you have the right idea. Send samples to the FBI and claim it's an attempted terror attack.

That'll get results. Unless it's the same people who ignored the Phoenix Memo.

4. The article also says it might be red cedar pollen.

I know we can have pretty thick pollen around here, although what I've seen before is mostly white or yellowish. But I think this is a "wait and see" kind of situation.

5. Saw this on the news last night and thought about the Russian orange snow post too!

This powder turns orange when it comes in contact with moisture according to the report.
Can only hope it's benign since most of the people around here were out running their hands through it as they cleaned off their cars.

Now it's raining.

Under the microscope the stuff looked roundish, almost transparent, faintly pink and peach.

It was pretty but I'd rather not be breathing it!

seems to me I know someone who was talking about it...said it looked like rust all over everything...so what is it? where is it coming from?
