| Thoughts on proposition 1? |
|
I'm having a hard time making up my mind about this Sound Transit Expansion proposition. I'm feeling distrustful of how all this money is spent; does anyone have any strong points one way or the other? Sales tax is already pretty high here, but so is our traffic congestion.
Anyway, hello to all my fellow Evergreen State DU-ers!

| 1. I'm supporting it because the longer you wait, the more expensive mass transit gets |
|
To be sure, we have a regressive tax system, but that is a separate issue. If we don't support paying for public goods just on that account, how will we ever get any?

| 2. I voted YES because we'll need the jobs here ... |
|
It is needed to reduce congestion. We'll need every job we can make here pretty soon. It will reduce pollution and we need a biosphere or nothing -nothing- else matters.
We need indexed income tax her just like Oregon and reduce sales & property tax. The rich need to chip in now and we need a break.

| 3. The regressuve tax system for it blows, but that's WA for you. |
|
But we really need a reasonable mass transit system here - the bus system is ok, but it is subject to the same congestion the road traffic is.
Hell, we already pay sales tax for sports stadiums we voted against, may as well get some useful infrastructure if they're gonna tax us for something anyway.

It goes without saying anyone voting for Prop 1 should vote against I-985 which would open up the HOV lanes during peak traffic.
