Are there any clues about the shootings on I 5 last night

I know the guys were caught but do we have any idea about who they were and what were the reasons behind this? The freeway was closed for hours and still no reasons published yet that I've seen why 2 guys were out there with Assault rifles.

Were they just bored kids who decided to while away a Friday Evening shooting across the freeway with Tracer Bullets. The whole thing is starting to creep me out. I want to know who the heck these fools were.
