A 26-year-old Seattle police officer was killed early Sunday morning in the Central District after an SUV came barreling through a red light at 80 mph and struck his patrol car, police spokesman Sean Whitcomb said.
The SUV's driver, a 31-year-old woman, suffered a broken leg and ankle. She is being held under house arrest at Harborview Medical Center.
A police source said there were four outstanding arrest warrants for the woman, including one for driving under the influence. Whitcomb would not confirm the information.
The woman's identity is expected to be released today after charges are filed, said Whitcomb.
