I check to see who prepared the arguments "for" and who prepared the arguments "against." Sometimes that's helpful.

btw I agree with you on 933 and 920. Jury is still out on 937 but I'm leaning "yes."

4. *yes* on I-937 -here's what persuaded me

On Nov. 7, Washington state has a chance to make a little history. If approved by the voters, Initiative 937 (I-937) will accelerate Washington’s transition to clean, efficient, renewable energy, help solve global warming, protect and preserve our remaining wilderness, and achieve real and lasting energy independence.

I-937 would achieve these lofty goals by requiring the state’s utilities to get 15 percent of their electricity from clean sources, like wind and solar, by 2020. The initiative would also require utilities to provide more resources for energy efficiency and conservation programs.

5. You realize we already have the "cleanest" energy in the country?

Hydro power is the most reliable and clean power we can have here. Wind is not reliable, solar is REALLY not reliable, in the northwest.

With the projects in the works we already are close to hitting those goals in the upcoming years. The problem with I-937 is that if you mandate it you end up costing the taxpayers more by pushing the percentage before the technology is ready.

This is a copy of laws passed around the country where they get their power from coal and fossil fuels. Those areas need the boost, we don't. All we are doing is replacing one form of clean power with another form.

10. realizing I am debating a non-DUer, still, here is my take

Solar would be good for eastern WA. Wind is reliable in many places as there is wind often in many places. Every bit helps in the long run.

all seem pretty dang windy to me!


I saw Gore's film, "An Inconvenient Truth" and the knowledge that the environment was very important turned to a 4-alarm emergency in my mind. Without life on earth, there is no life anywhere, therefore no jobs and no X-box.

9. 937-yes for me, no on others also.

920-no. Schools need the money more than people inheriting $2million+ estates.
933-no. Idea is good but the initiative is poorly written and bad.
937-yes. Will cost the state minimal, will cost us a little bit more in energy costs but overall will help energy for the future.
