From the Cap Times:

Barack Obama's presidential campaign will open its Madison campaign headquarters on the city's west side Sunday with an event featuring some of the most prominent supporters of Obama's chief challengers for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Gov. Jim Doyle, an early Obama supporter, will host the afternoon event in the "Madison Campaign for Change headquarters" at 1709 Monroe St.

3. There were 561 people at the opening
on Sunday and they weren't the usual suspects! The place was packed and everyone was signed in. Governor Doyle and Mayor Dave spoke. There were a few of the party regulars, but lots and lots of non-party people interested in volunteering. There will be another field office opening in Madison, closer to campus.

4. The only way it could be closer to campus is if it was on campus
We spent the weekend moving my sons into an apartment across the street. They could throw stones at Camp Randall stadium if there wasn't another apartment building in the way.

Thought about going, but the timing didn't work out. Good thing, too, if you had 561 people there. Parking would have been murder.

5. It was pretty hot with all those people in there.
Somebody told me they'd never seen this happen before- usually when these offices open there are 15-20 people. They had over 200 show up in West Bend!

6. I didn't think you'd get any where near that many either
That's why I never thought parking (and moving) would have been a problem.

It's great news. I'll take it.
