Toronto-area MP John Godfrey has become the second declared candidate for the Liberal leadership. Godfrey, 63, will submit his official papers as soon as the party declares the race open on April 7, he said Monday.
The bilingual parliamentarian described himself as coming from the party's progressive side.
"If I want to brand the party above all else, I want it to be known as the party of environmental sustainability, but also sustainability in the largest sense: economic, social, cultural," he told The Canadian Press in an interview.
"I think the cluster of issues that we confront as a country, whether you describe it as climate change or the impending energy crisis ... or the challenge of reorganizing our economy in a sustainable manner, that whole series of issues seems absolutely central to where we need to go as a country."
