Mulroney won't testify again at Commons committee: lawyer

OTTAWA — Brian Mulroney is refusing to testify for a second time before the Commons ethics committee about his controversial financial dealings with international arms lobbyist Karlheinz Schreiber.

Through his lawyer, Guy Pratte, the former prime minister has “respectfully declined” the invitation to appear Thursday before the Commons ethics committee.

In a letter to the committee clerk, Mr. Pratte says Mr. Mulroney has already provided four hours of testimony to the committee as well as copies of relevant documents.

Mr. Pratte says no useful purpose would be served by Mr. Mulroney making a return appearance.
