Organizers of a controversial Sikh parade in Surrey, B.C., are denying allegations that a member of Parliament and an MLA were threatened with violence if they showed up at the annual event on Saturday.
One of the parade organizers, Inderjit Singh Bains, reportedly made the comments while he was being interviewed on an Indo-Canadian radio station. The interview was then translated by the Vancouver Sun newspaper.
Bains said that Liberal MP Ujjal Dosanjh and Dave Hayer, the Liberal MLA for Surrey-Tynehead, were the only two people not invited to the parade, and if they did show up parade organizers would not be responsible for their safety and security.
Both Dosanjh and Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts have lodged complaints with the RCMP about the comments.
