| I'm appalled that Omar Khadr is being tried as a war criminal at Gitmo! |
|
In all the reporting I've seen on TV about this upcoming trial (it started today) in Gitmo, nobody, either in media or otherwise, has mentioned the most important fact of all! Omar Khadr was a child of 13 when his crazy father took him to war. What child would defy his father at that age? He was 15 when the alleged incident occured....this is mentioned in the reporting, but is not the pertinent fact. If the detail of him being 13 when he went with his father is pointed out during the trial, I don't see how Khadr can possibly be convicted.

I am appalled that Harper is letting him be tried at GITMO.
The ball was in Harpers court and he left it lay on the out of bounds line.
I sure hope you Canadians use the vote Harper out option.
And, I hope Omar gets to come home.

If he had requested the return of Khadr to Canada months ago, as the Australian and other western countries did successfully, there would be no trial....Needless to say I detest our P.M. who was elected beause he fooled the population of Canada into believing he was a moderate when he is actually a right wing bastard.

Chretien and Martin are just as responsible for this. It's pretty fucking sad when the goddamn separatists are more willing to stand up for a Canadian child soldier than our so-called natural governing party is. Liberal = Tory = Freeper. I understand that it's difficult for someone as busy as Skinner to appreciate the nuances of another country's politics, but it's time he got this through his head. Hell, the last Liberal defense minister, David Pratt, would have had us in Iraq if it had been up to him rather than Chretien, and last I check supporting war profiteers and Shiite death squads generally gets you a free pizza coupon on this site.
I honestly have no goddamn clue how Khadr's situation has ever been allowed to occur. A child brainwashed by his religiously insane family goes abroad with his father to fight a war has spent over 7 years in a military prison without trial because he may or may not have thrown a grenade at an American officer. Rather than having the best Canadian lawyer money can buy and being tried by a jury of his peers, the guy is languishing in territory the motherfucking Americans stole from Cuba with a Pentagon-appointed military lawyer and a jury of senior American officers. Even Hitler's lackeys were treated better than this after the Second World War, and they were adults when they committed their PROVEN atrocities.
How the fuck does this seem logical to anyone? Over 90% of Canadians are smart enough to call the marijuana prohibitionists on their bluff and yet we're split down the middle on issue where the just and rational position ought to be obvious to a fucking character on the Trailer Park Boys.

| 3. I am also appalled that the U.S. government is allowing a torture tainted confession to stand |
|
It is also pretty incredible that the U.S. invaded a country, and is now charging someone on the opposing side with murder, for events that occurred during combat. Offhand I can't think of a military that has done this in the past, though I am sure that there are examples. It seems contrary to any sort of warrior spirit, which the U.S. military prides itself on.
