Can anybody explain the "attack ad" to me?

I caught the tail end on CNN this a.m. but couldn't tell what the idea was.

Is it for real??

(Yeah, I don't watch Newsworld in the morning any more. I occasionally flip over to it, and within about two minutes I get sports news -- no, sports is not news -- which is bad enough, but it comes with the tinny thump-bang-thump-bang soundtrack that led to a permanent ban on Global news about 10 years ago. The thump-bang-thump-bang appears at other odd moments during a newscast too. I just won't be doing with it. And what with the 30-minute news cycle now, and no Sunday Morning, decades of CBC news devotion have ended.)
