Edmonton - A new right-wing party is predicting it will draw support from the governing Conservatives in the next election, winning as many as eight seats.
Randy Thorsteinson, whose Alberta Alliance party was created two years ago, says they will win right-wing voters disenchanted with Premier Ralph Klein's government and its free spending.
"There seems to be a real backlash of the government," he said. "Seniors are a classic example, where even seniors are coming in and saying that the government is trying to buy their votes and they're just not falling for it this time.
"So on every issue that this government is bringing out, they're out of touch with Albertans. And every time they try to address an issue, it seems to be the people they're trying to get the support from is actually starting to talk to us."
