Does Unibroue make pretty good beer?

Somebody just recommended Trois Pistoles to me.

I think they're located in Quebec. Well, I go to the liquor store on Monday. If they make unspeakably vile swill, hopefully someone will stop me beforehand. :silly:

4. Try Unibroue's Blanche de Chambly

It's an excellent white (wheat) beer that tastes wonderful in warm weather. It's not as strong as Trois Pistoles or Maudite, which are in the range of 8 to 9% alcohol.

The stronger beers tend to taste better during our long winters.

I have never tried Trois Pistoles myself, but I've seen it mentioned in other threads as a good beer.

I like their "U" as a summer beer. Sorry can't be more helpful, but I do most of my drinking at brew pubs. We have some really good ones here in Montreal.

all their beers are unbelievably flavourful, rich and fruity.

I like Blanche de Chambly, and he digs Maudite a lot.

The only stuff he hasn't liked so far has been the Ephemere. We get it down here at Central Market, and usually, most folks don't know what we're talking about when we mention them!

UniBroue is great beer, they were recently bought by Sleemans. In addition to Trois Pistol, they have other great beers. Blanche De Chambly, is one of them. It is a white beer with great taste; like most white beers it has a slight citrusy taste. It is very similar to Hoegarrden. Also Fin du Monde is a great Abbey beer, i think the only good one outside of Belgium made. Unfortunately I live in Manitoba and have access to only the above mentioned beers and maudite. But What I hear from my friends and famiy in Quebec that all of their beers are high quality. I feel that they are most likely the best beers brewed in Canada. Also they have high protein contents because they still have the les in the bottle; les is the left over yeast from brewing. Also Unibroue has some of the few beers that actually improve with age.

8. Speaking of beer

I will be in Toronto in a couple of weeks and wanting to try some good Canadian beers. Besides UniBroue what else would you great northerners recommend?

9. Just try the microbrews...

Look for a place called C'est What? on Front Street near the Esplanade and St. Lawrence market. They have at least 32 microbrews on tap.

Here's a short list of some good brews:
- Denison Weiss
- Creemore (amber lager)
- Wellington Arkell (Best Bitter)
- Cameron's Auburn Ale
- McAuslan Cream Ale
- Mill Street Tankhouse Pale Ale
- Wellington County Ale

There are many more, just don't be afraid to experiment. Whatever you do, avoid all the brews made by the well-known large domestic brewers and that includes American beers made by Molson and Labatt's.

I can't recall the name of the establishment, but there is also a tavern that has beers from all over the world. It's very near to C'est What, just off Front St. (behind it, actually) A wonderful watering hole and great place to experiment.
