| 1. Stunning! I don't watch that program (don't like the freakshowishness of it) but |
|
just once in a while, they do uncover a real gem,
The very best of luck to her. I hope she gets everything that she wishes for herself.

| 2. It's circulating world-wide, as you may know. |
|
Her voice is very well trained, and the truly amazing thing is that it's so youthful. If you weren't watching, you'd swear she's no older than thirty.

| 3. I wish the lady no harm but I worry greatly about Reality Show "cults" of this kind ... |
|
... not least about what they do to the cult "personalities".
Anybody remember "Millican and Nesbitt," a couple of rather cheesy middle-aged close-harmony singers who briefly tasted fame in the '70s as a result of a victory on Hughie Green's ghastly "Opportunity Knocks" show - an earlier manifestation of "Britain's Got Talent".
They were local guys who had been living happily, working as miners and playing the Working Men's Clubs at the weekend. After Opportunity Knocks, they had a couple of minor hits before being rooked dry by unscrupulous promoters and agents. After a couple of years they returned, tails between legs, broken, bitter men.
15 minutes of fame sounds fine. It's what happens afterwards. Being one who is always careful in what he wishes, I would much rather wish Miss Boyle spent many more happy years with her cat, her church and her karaoke machine than a "career" like that of the Singing Pitmen.

| 4. I agree with your main points and dislike our reality-show, celebrity culture... |

however if we must have one, it's nice that occasionally it shows up the talent of someone who isn't conventionally pretty, young and fashionable.

| 5. Unfortunately, it then tends to exploit them, chew them up ... |
|
... and spit them out.
I see signs of that already with Ms. Boyle.
