| Hypothetical question - If the BNP were to gain any form of power in this country |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 03:42 AM by Hopeless Romantic
and were introducing their vile policies, what would you be prepared to do to protest or to combat that?
Peaceful protest?
Civil disobedience?
Withholding taxes?
Emigration?
Violence?
Something else?
Would it make any difference if they were democratically elected or gained power by any other means?

| 1. I think that's one of those questions it's impossible to answer, HR. |

The closest I could get to answering would be to say that, should the unprecedented changes in British society which would be necessary for that to happen occur, then I would get me and my nearest and dearest the hell out of here long before the advent of the Obergriffinfuhrer.
But look at the Asshole. Do we REALLY think even a significant minority of Brits would buy into him? And let us not forget that, in fine existentialist tradition, he won last time because less people voted at all, not because significantly more voted for him.

| 2. I think it's most unlikely to happen.. |

though the possibility of such people gaining *any* place in the government is why I oppose pure PR electoral systems.
If it seemed likely to happen, I would campaign, get involved in tactical voting schemes (even for Tories if necessary) to prevent it, and protest peacefully. If they actually got in, I think I would make use of my Canadian dual citizenship.

Not now way, not no how. But, in answer to your question, I've already done my bit for my country and emigrated.

even under PR. and their election to the European Parliament shows me why PR is wrong for the House of Lords and Commons.

| 8. Continue work in international development |
|
Even if the BNP shuts down all development programmes and aid, istill still work in development--NGO or the like. If they ban NGOs, then it's time to move.
