Loughborough scientist's camera can spot traces of explosive

A scientist has invented a camera which he says will detect traces of explosives on terrorists trying to evade airport security checks.

Professor John Tyrer of Loughborough University believes his system is a way to beef up safety measures and avoid long delays for passengers.

The Government has pledged to step up checks at UK airports after a failed attempt to blow up a passenger jet over the US city of Detroit on Christmas Day.

It plans to introduce explosive residue testing at all UK airports by the end of this year.
