| Reckitt Benckiser accused of Gaviscon market rigging |
|
Household products giant Reckitt Benckiser has been accused by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) of rigging the market for heartburn drug Gaviscon.
Reckitt could be fined tens of millions of pounds and be forced to pay up to £40m to the National Health Service.
>
The OFT acted after a whistleblower revealed incriminating files to the BBC Newsnight programme in 2008.
These alleged that the makers of Gaviscon maintained an effective monopoly on the market for years after the stomach medicine came off patent.
