"Never, said Prime Minister Winston Churchill, was so much owed by so many to so few, and, on Wednesday, the nation will celebrate the RAF’s victory over Hitler’s Luftwaffe."
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/this-britain/v-for-victory-the-day-the-battle-of-britain-was-won-2077139.htmlA nicely written article. German historians argue that there was never any serious intention to invade, but that's a moot point. Defeat in the battle would have meant a compromise peace, and everything that followed would have been different. Most serious of all, Tom Cruise wouldn't have been planning a film about it.
