Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite dies aged 64

Oscar-nominated British actor Pete Postlethwaite has died at the age of 64, a spokesman has announced.

Journalist and friend Andrew Richardson said Postlethwaite, who was made an OBE in 2004, died peacefully in hospital in Shropshire after a lengthy illness.

In 1994, he was nominated for an Oscar for In The Name of the Father.

Actor Bill Nighy, who performed with Postlethwaite at Liverpool's Everyman Theatre in the 1970s, paid tribute to "a rare and remarkable man".

BTW, does anyone know what kind of cancer he died of? I found that, back in the 90's, he had testicular cancer but no word if it came out of remission or developed a different kind of cancer.

8. All the news stories I've seen have been vague.

They speak of his earlier diagnosis and suggest he had a "long battle" with cancer but don't give any specifics.

He will be missed.

5. A great loss to the cinema

We were chatting about him on Sunday evening after watching him
in a small part as a dying old man in "Inception", not realising
that it was so close to the truth ...

If you didn't see the BEEB tribute a day or so back then watch this even if you've seen Brassed Off. Something will not have clicked. His speech after they'd won was a complete surprise to the audience which was comprised of just about everybody involved with the film other than those on stage. It had been kept under wraps and reduced most of them to tears.
