Pickles blathers on about localism, whilst doing all he can to reduce the ability of local councils to actually do anything. Maybe it would be better if he was honest about his centralizing.
Pickles is also a dab hand at doing things that generate fawning headlines from the Daily Fail and Diana Express and this will do just that.
I have to say that stopping local coucils from shoving their newsletters through our doors will be popular with many people, especially as some of them are just thinly veiled party political propoganda (and my experience has been of Tory county councils being the offenders here).

The Northumberland one veers towards the local political glossy. The Newcastle one is genuinely informative and totally apolitical.
But surely the principle is important. It's up to the constituents to complain if they feel their money is being misused, not same panjandurum in London.
