Peter Weygers, a former mayor of the western suburb of Claremont, from where the three disappeared in 1996 and 1997, has been named as a person of interest in the Taskforce Macro investigation.
He was compelled to give a DNA sample during a raid on his home on Friday by Macro detectives investigating the murder of Jane Rimmer, 23, Ciara Glennon, 27, and Sarah Spiers, 18.
The Ten Network reported last night that Mr Weygers on Friday told a man also targeted by Taskforce Macro that he was disappearing. But Mr Weygers's lawyer had said he would be amazed if his client had fled overseas.
