| NZ Du'ers ... please check in! I'm working on my EoI! |
|
EoI, for those who don't know, is the "Expression of Interest," which is the first step in applying to move to NZ.
I'm hoping to qualify as a Skilled Migrant, thanks to my 10 years experience as a secondary-level educator.
My wife and I have been talking about this for about a year, and now it's time to get serious.
I could use some cheerleading here, since I worry that it is going to be a long, long process. I'd also like to hear whatever you have to share about NZ.

over at the Australia board. There seems to be a few Kiwis hanging in/checking out that forum.
Good luck and it is a beautiful country.

| 2. Immigration Apps: Hope & Anxiety |
|
I'm not from NZ, but I *do* want to cheer you on with your EoI. I am experiencing similar hopes and fears. And, my brain is overloaded with information right now, as yours may well be. I explored the NZ process for a while, but wasn't feeling very confident about being able to find a job there. So, I just spent the day exploring Canadian immigration policy -- I scored 72/100 points on the skilled worker 'test' -- which is better than passing (67). I would earn 10 more points if I could get a job offer, but that seems unlikely because I can't predict how long it will take to be approved to 'land'. I was checking job listings and getting bummed out about only finding part-time jobs until I realized that health care is covered for everyone in Canada, so 'part-time' doesn't have the same negative connotations as in the US. I got stalled trying to figure out what I would have to do to get a province to sponsor me (the wait time if you are sponsored is much shorter than the skilled worker process) so I gave up for the day. This is a rather surreal pursuit for the day before Thanksgiving - the all-American holiday.
I wish you and your wife the best! :hi:
