But I have spent time there, and, since you haven't gotten any replies yet, decided to kick your post. I am Irish-American and have often thought I'd love to live there. I envy you. Cork is a very beautiful part of the country, but, really, all of it's beautiful. I think that my favorite place is the Ring of Kerry and Killarney. Be sure to visit there when you get the chance.
On one visit, with my parents and grandmother, we had a guide who really reminded me of a very famous American. I kept asking my father if he couldn't see the resemblance. Well, it turns out that it was not my imagination. Our guide was none other than the winner of the Irish Jimmy Carter look-alike contest, LOL! When we visited Galway, where there is a park named after President Kennedy, he kept asking why there isn't one named after "Mr. Carter."
Enjoy your time there and let us know how it's going!:hi:

| 3. I plan on hitting all of those places. I'm going to get a car in the |
|
next couple of weeks, and then my weekends will be filled with excursions.
Thanks for the advice. I like it here a lot so far...

| 7. Great! Keep us posted on how it's going there and where you visit |
|
I'm envious! But at least I can enjoy it vicariously!:D
The last time I was in Ireland, there was a lot of discussion about IRA activities, even in the South. I'm wondering if things have calmed down after all the peace efforts that have gone on since then.

| 2. Also from Chicago and I would love to live in Ireland. |

Did you relocate because of a job or to get away from here?
Ah, if I had the money.... Sadly, I lack the paperwork to acquire dual citizenship.

| 4. Both. I had just finished grad school and found a job over here, |
|
but the political climate played a small role in that decision. * getting reelected (I know, he was never elected blah blah blah) may certainly factor into if and when my wife and I return, however.

If you happen to pass through my neck of the woods, please feel free to give a call, go have a pint, do lots of complaining about *, see local nature and historical sights, etc, etc.
I've been living here since Feb '03. The combination of the untimely death of Paul Wellstone and the shenanigans surrounding the 2002 mid-terms sealed the deal for me. I love my new country almost as much as I miss my old one. And I've been all over 24 of the 26 counties. I'll send you a PM, with info if you're ever in my neck o' the woods!
Slan!
