"The US Supreme Court has ruled that the military commissions set up by the Bush Administration to
try prisoners, including David Hicks, at Guantanomo Bay, are illegal and must be abandoned.

"In a major blow to the Administration the five-to-three decision of the court said the Geneva
Conventions covering prisoners of war had to be applied to proceedings against all prisoners at
Guantanomo."

What a slap in the face for the gutless wonders in Canberra, who've supported the Bush claims of
legality for so long.

Especially when we take into consideration what Howard is saying:

PRIME Minister John Howard has called on the United States not to free terror suspect David Hicks, but to quickly find an alternative way to try him.

"What we'll be putting to the Americans is not that he should be released — rather that he should be brought to trial in a manner acceptable to the Supreme Court as soon as possible," Mr Howard said yesterday.

Opposition Leader Kim Beazley said the Federal Government should tell the Bush Administration it must try Hicks in a civil court. "US civil court processes are among the best in the world and that is where justice may be obtained," he said.

The Democrats and the Greens yesterday called for Hicks to be brought home. "The Australian Government must … exercise its sovereign right to ask for his immediate repatriation," Democrats legal spokeswoman Natasha Stott Despoja said.

So I guess teh old Kim couldn't give a flying fuck either!
