Jesse Jackson getting involved, Kerry's intervening in the case in Delaware County, showed some of the rally from yesterday, showed some of the 'debunked' 'theories', yet it was mostly fair - said there will be a recount.....didn't totally downplay it, but didn't exactly do it any justice.......they're getting there though.

this has to be the way, they need to introduce it to the public slowly - and get them ready in case anything huge happens (which it will).

19. That's how I felt about the PBS Newshour coverage

Jim Lehrer's Newshour on PBS did a solid twenty minute piece on the Ohio irregularities last week. They stated most of the facts that have surfaced to date, and presented them in a very fair, even tone. I thought they did a great job of introducing the issue to the average American. No hysterics, no sneering. They did use the "f" word, though! :)

7. My take

The coverage was better than I have seen from MSM (KO excluded)...and, it is now being taken somewhat seriously.

My objection: Report mentioned a congress challenge by "two or three reps" and no mention of Conyers.

But, it is better than it has been -- MSM is taking "Baby Steps".

9. Most MSM coverage yet, On a whole I'd give it a C+

They mention 37,000 irregularities and then a couple of specifics which they said that the Boston Globe and NY Times debunked. That pissed me off. Taking two incidents and acting like the papers debunked everything. Showed Kerry and Edwards - said that they were not contesting the election but in one Ohio county. But that he wants votes in all counties recounted. (odd,quirky logic there IMHO) OOH -- showed the rally from yesterday, yes you poor people it did look cold. Then Jackson, again critizing Kerry for not getting involved. And then the head of a voting group not sure which - a guy with a white streak in his hair -- pretty much say, yes there were problems but, (once again) the margin so big won't matter (I hate that line) Oh the best part to be the line on the bottom of the screen used the "F" word - Said "OHIO FRAUD"

IMO, if Jesse Jackson hadn't gone to Ohio, or made it an issue, it wouldn't be hitting MSM. His profile is high enough, that when he speaks out, it makes news.

Jesse feels like it's a slap in the face to us because we stood in long lines, rain or shine to cast our votes for him, and he just gives up when he said he had our backs.

This is my first post on DU. Perhaps some kind stranger will want to start a thread about it.

I haven't seen this analysis done quite this way before, but it confirms some previous work on the Ohio vote anomalies, so I thought I'd share it with you:

Anomalies between the vote counts for John Kerry and the Democratic candidate for Ohio Chief Justice, C. Ellen Connally, have been reported elsewhere.

I decided to extrapolate some additional data from Secretary of State Blackwell's unofficial tallies posted on his website. These are the only data we have until the official counts are released tomorrow or Tuesday. I hope you will find this interesting.

Statewide, both presidential candidates got 500,000-600,000 more votes than their parties' Ohio Chief Justice candidates. However, there are actually 12 counties (Auglaize, Brown, Butler, Clermont, Darke, Highland, Mercer, Miami, Putnam, Shelby, Van Wert and Warren) in which Connally received a total of 19,350 more votes than Kerry but only 4 counties (Erie, Mahoning, Stark and Trumbull) in which Connally's Republican opponent, Thomas J. Moyer, received a total of 15,509 more votes than Bush.

Now here's the interesting thing:

In the 4 counties in which the Republican, Moyer, got 15,509 more votes than Bush, Kerry beat Bush by a total of 63,702 votes. In the 12 counties in which the Democrat, Connally, got 19,350 more votes than Kerry, Bush beat Kerry by 214,137 votes!

The difference: 214,137 - 63,702 = 150,435 more votes for Bush in counties where either presidential candidate got fewer votes than his party's candidate for OH Chief Justice.

That's a lot o' votes and in my humble opinion, this is an anomaly.

Only a full investigation will determine if any of Kerry's votes were actually "switched" to Bush and I hope there will be one!

21. The info they gave on NC voting is DEAD WRONG!!

I saw them refer to the 4438 lost e-votes in North Carolina, claiming that these votes were initially thought to have been irretrievably lost but since found to have been correctable.

I am assuming that they are referring to the lost votes in Carteret County. The machine was programmed to accept up to 3000 votes, but the pollworkers were told that it could hold 10,000 votes. Everyone who voted on the machine past the 3000th vote had their votes go into the netherworlds, never to be seen again. They are irretrievable, and this is causing a HUGE problem since the statewide race for Secretary of Agriculture shows the Republican candidate ahead by only 2300 votes, which is less than the margin of lost votes.

A do-over has been scheduled in Carteret County, but the terms are very controversial and will certainly mean that the losing candidate will file a lawsuit. State law requires that a statewide revote be held under the circumstances and the Democrats on the state Board of Elections favored that remedy. The Republicans argued that only the disenfranchised voters, whose names are known, should have the right to vote again. A compromise was reached where the 4438 voters PLUS any of the 20,000 voters in Carteret County who did not vote at all would have the opportunity to vote again on January 11. There is a question as to whether the compromise is legal, and neither candidate seems to know right now whether or not this decision favors his side.

Email CNN and tell them that they are WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!! This was most definitely NOT fixed, and the fact that we had no paper trail on these machines where votes were irretrievably lost is causing HUGE problems in this state which will continue for the forseeable future!!!

22. Take action: Encourage them to continue coverage!

Their coverage is still lacking, but it's the most we've seen from the MSM outside of Olbermann's show. Encourage them to keep reporting on the issue! I think it'd be effective to different people send letters with different perspectives on the voting issues. Here are some possibilities I'd suggest:

1. Tell them about a problem *you* experienced, that it's troubling to you that so many others apparently had problems too, and that you like to hear more about these problems.

OR

2. Let them know that you found their report interesting, that you were surprised to hear that so many problems have been reported since you haven't heard about much in the mdia, and that you want to hear more about these problems.

OR

3. Thank them for their coverage, convey how important you think this issue is for our democracy, and point out some of the issues they didn't include that you think viewers would find interesting--like the evidence of suppression in Ohio:
