Datamaxx Group and State of Iowa Deploy “Kaleidoscope” to Provide Crucial Criminal Justice Information Sharing Capabilities

Tallahassee, FL – (September 8, 2003) - Datamaxx Enterprise Intelligence, Inc., (Datamaxx) a subsidiary of Datamaxx Group, Inc., announced today the successful launch of the initial phase of “Kaleidoscope,” a comprehensive criminal justice integration initiative within the State of Iowa. “Kaleidoscope”, the Phase 1 Proof of Concept, effectively integrates critical federal, state and local data, allowing it to be accessed over the communications infrastructure of the Iowa Department of Public Safety (IDPS) statewide network. This accessibility provides valuable and timely information sharing regarding offenders who have been released into community-based supervision programs managed by the Iowa Department of Corrections (IDOC), and those detained and/or released pending trial from the Polk County Sheriff’s Detention facility. During routine traffic stops, law enforcement officers are notified of an individual’s status as a probationer or person awaiting trial, while the system simultaneously notifies probation officers that one of his/her supervised offenders are either the subject of an inquiry or has been arrested.

According to John Baldwin, Deputy Director of the IDOC, “The automatic notifications allow probation officers to be proactive in following up with the appropriate law enforcement agencies to determine whether any probation violations have occurred. The information and statistics gathered during the initial phase of Kaleidoscope validates our theory that significant, tangible benefits are derived from the sharing of information among members of the criminal justice community”. Kaleidoscope also offers automated scheduled reports that are sent to the Polk County Attorney’s Office indicating any new arrests made by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

“There has always been a need to provide criminal justice information to officers on the street. Project Kaleidoscope, Phase1, provides critical corrections information in a timely fashion to officers in any location. This will improve the safety of both our officers and the citizens of Iowa,” said Larry Grund, Chief of the Iowa Department of Public Safety, Technology Services Bureau.
“This is only one effort to meet Governor Vilsack’s `safety communities` initiative as a criminal justice integration process. The Kaleidoscope project is an excellent example of the ongoing collaborative effort between Iowa’s law enforcement practitioners, including: Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Prosecuting Attorney, IDPS, IDOC, Iowa Criminal Juvenile Justice Planning, and the Department of Administrative Services Information Technology Enterprise.”

According to Major Jim Martin (Retired), Director of Business Development for Datamaxx Group, “The post-9/11 environment has elevated the ‘absolute mandate’ that critical information be shared not only among law enforcement and criminal justice agencies, but also with non-criminal justice agencies that

Businesses searching for economic developers with money might find this of interest. Tallahassee-based Florida First Capital was named the largest Small Business Administration lender in North Florida by loan volume.

The company, a certified development company for the state and one of the nation's largest providers of SBA 504 loans for commercial real estate and heavy equipment, issued more than $32million in loans for transactions totaling more than $78million during the 2004 SBA fiscal year, which ended in September.

The SBA 504 loan program provides low-interest, long-term, fixed-rate financing - usually for 10 to 20 years - for small businesses to purchase real estate, machinery or equipment.

Toughness served Kay Stephenson on the way to CEO

The wounds have yet to heal for Kay Stephenson. Even now, more than six months later, her face reflects pain when she's asked about the subject. Last year, Stephenson - the president and chief executive officer of the Datamaxx Group - entered a bid to provide the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles with laptops for state troopers. But officials didn't want to accept the bid, even though it was $700,000 less than Datamaxx's competitor. They wanted to go with another company, which had what they considered a better software vendor.

"It was very difficult to maintain professionalism," Stephenson said. "I had not had that experience before. I still find it hard to swallow, but I knew as long as I maintained my integrity, I would be OK." And she is. The 5-foot-2 woman literally became the "David" who beat "Goliath." Datamaxx, which had to split the deal with two other vendors, got the bulk of the project and is the project manager.

"There was a real streak of toughness I saw there (during the bid war)," said Jonathan Waters, Stephenson's partner and vice president of research and development for Datamaxx Applied Technologies, a subsidiary of the Datamaxx Group.

Enterprise Software: Hummingbird Analysts Scratching Their Heads, Insiders Selling

Toronto, ONT, August 25 /SHfn/ -- Hummingbird recently announced positive Q3 results. Sales for the quarter ended June 30, 2000 were $60 million, up 41% from the same period last year. Adjusted net income was $9.3 million as compared to $8.0 million for Q3 the previous year. Earnings were $24.2 million or $1.37 a share for the nine months ended June 30, 2000, compared to $21.9 million or $1.42 a share for the same period last year. CIBC World Markets is expecting $230 million in revenues for FY2000 and $267 million for FY2001.

There are 19.0 million shares outstanding, and the major shareholders are CEO Fred Sorkin at 10%, and President Barry Litwin with 6%.

Nesbitt Burns downgraded the company from a "top pick" to an "outperform" and reduced its target price from $95 to $72.

Many analysts seem to be scratching their heads on Hummingbird. Since August 3, six analysts have issued Hummingbird with a "buy" type recommendation. CIBC Markets has not changed its "strong buy" since January. Since then, the stock has climbed from $48.60 to $87 and back down to $45.95. RBC Dominion Securities has had an "outperform" recommendation since December 1999, when the stock was $48.60, but, has recently reduced the stock's price target from US$67.00 to US$40.00. Nesbitt Burns has had Hummingbird as a "top pick" close to the stock's high of $87.00 and all the way down to its current $47 trading range. On August 4, 2000, Nesbitt Burns downgraded the company from a "top pick" to an "outperform" and reduced its target price from $95 to $72.

The EIP market is estimated to be worth about $5 billion when combining content, knowledge and data management, and is growing at over 30% per year. "That's probably true, but this (EIP solutions) will probably be an add-on product, not a product that is bought for itself," says a pessimistic analyst who asked not to be named.

"Overall, their EIP business is essentially the PC DOCS business, some consulting business and some other business. I don't think there is anything in business intelligence. What's the growth profile on that?" concludes the analyst.

In addition to major competitors, there are a number of start-up vendors that have emerged in the portal space. Viador , Plumtree, Autonomy , Epicentric, and Yahoo are a few of a growing list of companies that are EIP competitors.

While analysts were recommending buying Hummingbird this spring, nine insiders were selling Hummingbird. Insiders sold 204,998 shares between the dates of March 1 and March 6, which was just before Hummingbird began its descent from its high of $87. The largest sellers were President and COO Barry Allan Litwin and CEO Fred Sorkin. Both insiders unloaded a hefty 50,000 shares at a price of $68 on March 1, which equates to a handsome $3.4 million each. Hossam Abou Zeid placed a close third cashing in 40,000 shares on March 3 at a price of $75 for a total of $3 million. Perhaps they knew what analysts did not.

I don't know if it's of any use. It appears to be a list of lobbyists that are registered to lobby the Florida legislature. If I'm reading it correctly it lists each individual along with the organizations they lobby for. It lists the names "Bobby L. Brantley Sr." and "Eric J. Thorn" as lobbyists for "Datamaxx Group, Inc." Interestingly, it also lists lobbyists for "Sequoia Voting Systems" but not in any connection with Datamaxx. I can't find any mention of "Triad" or "Diebold" in it. It's dated 12/22/04 so it's current.

Having come to WSU from Bryn Mawr, Penn., on athletic scholarship, Blackwell was a starting linebacker and center for the football team. “I played football pretty well,” he says, “and I unfortunately had that stereotypical jock attitude — academics, shall we say, came second.”

He quickly found out that Fugate, now WSU dean emeritus of women, didn’t tolerate slipshod course work. “She challenged me,” Blackwell remembers. “She saved me. She was always there for me, at the university and afterwards. If I had no other reason to love WSU, it would be her.” He still returns to Wichita now and then to see Fugate and Jim Rhatigan, now dean emeritus of students.

It was Fugate who paved the way for his first job, as an IBM systems engineer in 1966 — IBM-Kansas’ first African-American employee — which got him in on the ground floor of the computer revolution. She says, “As a liberal arts major, Bob was a perfect fit for the new field of computers.”

In 1970, he was hired away by Ken Orr ’60, who was then-head of computer operations for the state of Kansas and who, as an incoming member of the football team, had known all-Missouri Valley Conference player Blackwell briefly at Wichita State. I was the author of Amendment 1 to International Standards Organization standard ISO 3309, which defined a character-oriented framing technique for sending computer network data which is now used by millions of people every day for dialing into the Internet over modems. have been sent and buffered for a remote application that never processes them.

The foot patrolmen conveniently wear the RIM computers on their belt loops. Officers are testing the computers for their effectiveness in accessing information quickly at the scene. Patrol car computers known as mobile digital terminals have been used throughout the city for years, but the new palm computers are easily concealable and can be carried on scene by the officer who otherwise would have to wait for a patrol car radio or use a phone to retrieve suspect information. The Council on Foreign Relations has been the most powerful private organization in U.S. foreign policy since it began in 1921. While priding itself on non-partisanship and on recent efforts to recruit minorities, women, and youth (under 35), CFR's 4,200 members mainly reflect the resources needed by the ruling class to maintain their power. Don't call them if you want to join; they call you. And don't wait for a call unless you have big money, national security expertise, CIA experience, a political constituency, or clout with the media. CFR publishes the prestigious journal "Foreign Affairs" as well as a number of books and reports. Another major activity is to organize closed meetings for their members with assorted world leaders. Everyone feels free to share views and information about current world events, primarily because CFR has strict confidentiality rules and keeps its records locked up for 25 years.

CounterSpy published 32 issues from 1973 to 1984, a special issue on Jordan in 1977, and 8 issues as The National Reporter from 1985 to 1988. Back issues are no longer available except through the PIR photocopying service.

This little magazine had a stormy history. After they started printing names of CIA officers around the world, a station chief was assassinated in 1975 by urban guerrillas in Athens. CounterSpy found itself under attack by what appeared to be an orchestrated U.S. media -- or perhaps it was simply pack journalism. Their struggle to keep publishing was not always successful.

More than once this was where you read it first. The station chief in Costa Rica, Joseph F. Fernandez, first appeared in CounterSpy in 1975, even while the Washington Post was sticking with his pseudonym up until the day he was indicted in 1988. And the National Endowment for Democracy, finally recognized for its role in buying the Nicaraguan election in 1990, was first exposed in The National Reporter by editor John Kelly in 1986. This magazine will be missed by those who feel that they need to know.

This biography of Jesse Jackson is written by a conservative and published by Regnery, which is very conservative. Occasionally in the book, on certain issues, the author reveals the right-wing baggage that he brought to this project. There is too much red baiting over the background of Martin Luther King advisor Jack O'Dell, a former CPUSA member. (The CPUSA played an important role in the early civil rights movement, and deserves credit for this, not scorn.) Other examples are when the author mentions Jackson's position on the Panama Canal, or his meetings with Yasser Arafat, or with officials from the African National Congress (some of the leaders in the ANC were Communists, which is all the author needed to know about that).

The other ninety percent of this book exposes Jackson's career as a huckster and shakedown artist, and is meticulously documented. Jackson's association with Chicago gangsters has by now evolved into his technique with American corporations. The approach is somewhat crude: if a corporation helps fund one of his many "nonprofit" fronts, Jackson won't sabotage their plans by flexing his affirmative action muscle. Other fascinating chapters chronicle Jackson's inept dealings with African thugs such as Charles Taylor of Liberia. Jackson traveled as a presidential "special envoy" at a crucial time in that region, which amounts to evidence of Clinton's poor judgment.
