PRESIDENT Bush may have made many mistakes in the past few months, but he has made real progress on his promise to heal the wounds of last year’s presidential election campaign. It split America in two, but both sides are now uniting: against him.

In Congress, a revolt is growing among Republicans dismayed by his handling of Hurricane Katrina – seeing it as the last straw of ineptness. Right-wing columnists are fast joining their left-wing enemies to form a stereophonic attack.

Every move the president makes to show he is taking command over Hurricane Rita only serves as a reminder of what he should have done during Katrina. Last year’s hero of the right is now seen as an embarrassment to conservatism.

In New York, from where these words are written, the small but dedicated band of Republicans are in despair. They swallowed hard and backed Bush to the hilt in the election – but now find warnings of the Democrat neighbours coming true. It isn’t that Bush is demonic, stupid or corrupt – though all these labels are attached to him, still, in home-made posters stuck to Manhattan lampposts. There is one charge that Republicans and Democrats are now agreeing on: incompetence.

by suggesting he or his Administration is only incompetant, rather than evil.

I love to see the chimp taking grief from his own. I just don't want us to lose sight of the REAL goal.
The chimp will be gone in a few years even if we do nothing.
This is a wonderful opportunity to drive a STAKE through the evil, bigoted, black heart of "Compassionate Conservatism".

I am surprised that we are having to fight this battle all over again. This "Everything for the RICH and the POOR can fight for the Crumbs" doctrine was PROVED a complete FAILURE when they tried it under St Ronnie. I am amazed they could sell the same old shit to America just a few years later!

I don't want to completely exterminate the Republican Party. I want to keep a few around in Zoos and protected areas so I can show them to my grandchildren and say,

This is the party of government can do NOTHING well so why do anything? Bush didn't botch the response on his own. He had lots of help from bureaucrats that share his philosophy of government. It wasn't just Shrub being Idiot Boy. It was the philosophy.

There's a good deal of buyer's remorse these days. My friend who has always said it doesn't make a dime's worth of difference who gets elected, is now convinced that it does matter.

that TDITWH may intentionally act incompetent to kill people which would make him demonic. The only reason why i call him stupid is because he thought all of us wouldn't know what he was up to. Chimps is more of a sinister murderer and less of an incompetent innocent guy.
