because I've had this phone number for 22 years and have NEVER heard it before then!

What? They think I'm STOOOPID or something??? I say something about it each time I'm on my land line, just so the person on the other end is aware of it. I haven't done anything but a lot of volunteering and I made all my phone banking calls at the local headquarters, so I don't know WHY they are bothering!

Another thing, I have caller ID and I NEVER answer any phone call unless I KNOW the number of the person who is calling. If they can't leave a message, then it wasn't important. I've told all my friends and relatives this, but I've done this ever since I've had Caller ID!

And since it is campaign season, I tell them that I take my phone off the hook when my phone literally rings off the cradle. Usually about 6:00 PM!

4. Sounds like they are deliberately trying to intimidate you by using a

procedure that shows you that Big Brother is listening. With today's technology, I don't believe phone tapping has to produce that obvious sound. Just think how the Mafia figures would have reacted if one of the FBI taps made that beep-beep sound!

It's all done digitally at a switching center. Just like you can make copies of an MP3, you can split a phone line into two streams.

And there's no way you could hear clicks, buzzes or beeps.
