THIS IS A HUGE DISCREPENCY WITH THE ORIGINAL MACHINE NUMBERS!

Spano maintains lead over Stewart-Cousins in 35th District

State Sen. Nicholas Spano carried a 153-vote lead over his opponent, Westchester County Legislator Andrea Stewart-Cousins, at the end of the sixth day of ballot counting yesterday in the 35th Senate District.

The lead was nine votes lower than the previous day, and the race remained too close to call.

Since the count began a week ago, election workers have finished tallying voting machines and more than two-thirds of the absentee ballots. Another 1,561 absentee and 3,491 affidavit ballots remain to be counted.

Spano, a Yonkers Republican, had a 144-vote lead in absentee ballots, in addition to a nine-vote lead on voting machines, a figure that was recently revised. The initial voting machine count gave Spano a 54,120-to-52,446 lead over Democrat Stewart-Cousins, also from Yonkers.

I'm saying THE MACHINE COUNT difference is now 9 votes. They are reporting the numbers for each type of voting.

In fact most articles about this race fail to mention some significant things. At the start of the election, the democrats charged that there were already votes on the machine for Spano before voting started (can't find the damn link where I read that) and that 22 of the machines seals were broken or missing. http://www.wnbc.com/politics/3902820/detail.html

I'd read somewhere else that the machines that were used were older electronic ones which could be "preloaded" with votes, but I can't find that article anymore.

Anyway, I sure hope the Democrat wins. Even better would be some hard evidence of vote tampering coming out of the hearings.

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, the Westchester County legislator who challenged incumbent state Senator Nicholas Spano, took a lead today as election workers double-checked voting machines in the 35th Senate District.

Jonathan Rosen, director of the state Democrats' campaign committee, says Stewart-Cousins was up by 263 machine votes in late afternoon.

That was more than enough to offset a Spano lead of about a dozen votes in early counting of absentee ballots.

A week earlier, the unofficial election night tally had her behind by 16-hundred-and-74 votes.

What more do you want?

Nearly 100,000 vote race. 2000 votes where wrong in machines, apparently each one. That is a full 2% difference. If the same thing happened in Ohio, a recount would make Kerry the winner.

Apparently they're finding big discrepancies in the machine count of the votes, right? Why aren't they reporting that forthrightly?

I need more information, or I guess I need to read these articles & numbers more closely.

Computer glitch found in Franklin County ballot-counting

BROOKVILLE, IND. -- A Democrat gained enough votes to bump a Republican from victory in a county council race after a recount prompted by a computer glitch in optical-scan voting.

The glitch in the Fidlar Election Co. vote-scanning system had recorded straight-Democratic Party votes for Libertarians, and vice versa.

When votes in southeastern Indiana's Franklin County were recounted by hand Thursday night, Democrat Carroll Lanning leaped from fifth to third in the three-seat at-large commissioners race and Republican Roy Hall fell to fifth.

Lanning gained 628 votes in the recount and beat Hall, 4,564 to 4,470, county Clerk Marlene Flaspohler said.

This recount will be followed closely, eh? Is there anyone on the ground there who can go to the elections office and get first hand info? We need all the details: how were the votes recorded, machine type, how the recount was handled, etc. First hand info, anyone?
