11. I'm shocked!

This is not happening...Tell me it's all a bad dream! Last night me and my boyfriend watched Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and we laughed, cried and also got really REALLY angry! I had trouble in falling asleep because I was too excited about the outcome of the election. Had to wake up at 5 a.m. to see if the results were out already....

If Bush wins, today will be a black day here in Finland...

Our president, Tarja Halonen (who is a woman and a former spokesperson for the organization of sexual minorities here in Finland) probably will send congratulations to Bush but does it with no joy...

If the worst comes true and Bush truly gets re-elected, I hope there'll be demonstrations all over the world against him, and believe me, I'LL BE THERE!!!

I honestly don't know if demonstrations would help. Everyone's free to express themselves blah blah blah but for now I'm only interested in the most effective means of containing Bush's power. That kind of thing sometimes just causes people to dig in their heels. I notice, for instance, that the Guardian's adopted county gained in Bush voters this year.

Bah. I don't have any solution, so I can't really tell you what to do. But please judge your actions on what you think will be most effective, not what will be most emotionally satisfying. We really, really need help in keeping a leash on this guy.

To those who voted for Kerry, you have my commiserations and I know how you must be feeling, having just recently had to live through the re-election of little Johnny Howard here...

To those who voted for Bush, I've got to wonder just whether those folk are plain dense or evil or maybe a mixture of both. Of course they'll be the first and loudest to whine when Bush's policy impacts on their sorry lives, and they sure won't be getting any sympathy from the rest of the world...

here in Tokyo I am feeling "shock and awe".

I would like to give Americans the benefit of the doubt by supporting the voting fraud calls I see on this board, and not thinking there are enough morons over there that would support Bush, but 3 million votes is quite a gap. While I don't think it is impossible, I don't really believe anyone could get away with manipulating the vote on that scale.

I never understood why Gore gave up in 2000 - the evidence pointing to fraud in Florida was virtually irrefutable, but nobody seemed to care. I know there was a bit of initial outcry, but it just faded away...

If any fraud has been committed this time, then you are all to blame for not standing up to if the first time.

If Bush has really been legitimately elected, then I can't say much about that aside from expressing my dismay and disbelief. If America chooses to continue on the path of ignorance, intolerance and disrespect for the rest of us that inhabit the planet, then I guess we better batten down the hatches and get ready for the rough ride that I can foresee in the years ahead.

To those of you that voted for Kerry (ie: everyone on this board), my heartfelt commiserations. If I was religious I would pray for you all, but instead I will just worry myself to sleep at night about your plight, and about the direction George Bush will push the rest of us in in the near future.

Now that is looks as though Bush has the race all but won, I am sure he will be convinced the voice in his head is really God, and the American people have given him a mandate to ramp up his crusade in the Middle East. God help us all.

20. Sanctions are the one thing...

that would make Uncle Sam sit up and listen, and I have long thought that we should have imposed them when Bush stole the election in Florida, but its never going to happen I am afraid Oak2004...we also have plenty of people that value money of all else in our countries, and as in the US the rich have a lot of "behind the scenes" influence.

Besides, lots of normal people really don't care so much as long as they watch TV and buy all the stuff that is rammed down their throats on the commercials - sanctions against the US would cripple most economies and job losses would follow soon after. The sheeple would never stand for it.

It would take a nuke launched from America at France to get people to even consider such a move.
