I remember reading about the King's College Choir a few years ago, and they said that some excellent boy trebles turned out to be great singers after their voices changed, while others were just mediocre.

But whatever happens, that kid will be better off with some vocal coaching to improve his technique and make the best of what he has now and in the future.
