Group suggestion: Music Group

There's already a Musician's Group, but how about a group for discussion of music? We can discuss bands, musicians, trends in music, lyrics, all sorts of things.

If there's any sort of response, I'll put together a Mission Statement.

We need to discuss music here. I hate having to talk to my friends about hip hop when I want to talk about Green Day! A music discussion forum would be great. As for the morbid obsession with religious right, I have to say I get sadistic there and love to hate them, but I'm not sure if an entire FORUM should be give to them, maybe a few threads.

Since we have enough people, here's a proposed Mission Statement:

The Music Discussion Group exists for DU members to talk about their favorite music, musicians, albums, or anything else of a musical nature. This includes all musical genres, past and present. Discussion of the music industry is also welcome.

Looks ok to me, although you might want to add that it's not a place to talk about actually making music or about the Grateful Dead, as both musicians and deadheads already have their own groups.

I can't think of anything more to include. Unless we want to make the legal issues (downloads, royalties, ownership, trademark/copyrite) a special category to avoid due to possible flames. Always seems to be a flamewar on the horizon when discussing peer to peer downloads.

I don't play in a band and I don't know if it's against DU rules
but
maybe the group can also incude the promotion of local bands, musicians and clubs/bars, etc. where these bands may be playing at.


Other than that, the mission statements is cool.

"Non-Musicians Music Discussion Group".

That would certainly differentiate it from the Musician's
Group, whom I'm sure would not appreciate us non-musicians
invading their group.

but wouldn't it imply discussing the technical aspects of music?

I only say this because when I had a music appreciation class in college, we only talked about the technicalities of music instead of music itself.
