Interfaith Group Urges Congress to Insure All U.S. Children

... At a news conference .... Rabbi David Saperstein said the nation's health care system "needs healing." The Reverend Richard Land said health coverage for children is "a pro-life issue" for Southern Baptists because, "We're not be pro-life just from conception to birth, but after birth as well." Bishop George McKinney, a leader of the Church of God in Christ, said God's blessings are conditioned on how the nation cares for "the least of these." The leader of the Islamic Society of North America said the Quran teaches that caring for children is the responsibility of the entire community, not just the parents.

Maybe EVERY chapter, talks about god healing and curing diseases through some process outside the physical laws of nature. You know, healing the blind, curing leapers, healing the crippled people and even raising the dead. I can only relate it to magic. Ok, maybe god doesn’t use a magic wand when he does all that healing and curing, mabe he's more like Dr. Bombay on bewitched where he gets some stump water and frog warts or maybe he just waves his picky finger or something, who knows how he does it.

Why don't you tell us what you thought of the OP.

For instance, I thought that this was a good thing, and if their faith or their reason led them to it, they were welcome to it.

6. It's always good to see people working for positive change.

Regardless of what they believe. I think all of us can agree that insuring all children is a noble goal, and one that we can all get behind.

I still can grind my axe at the whole "conception to birth" issue. It just seems so damn nonsensical to me, but maybe that's why I'm an atheist.

10. It is so important that children get quality health care...

but even more, children benefit from early dental care and access to an optomotrist. If these people need the Quran or the bible to justify seeking medical care for children, so be it. Good on them.

On edit: This is okay as long as National Health Care is a secular program, and the money is not given to "faith groups".

Good to know that they aren't immune to our rhetoric.

Congratulations to all the leaders who did not let religious differences keep them from understanding what is important. I'd like to see more of this. The more people see people of all religious creeds singing from the same hymnal, as it were, the larger the possibility that everyone will see how meaningless theological distinctions are in the face of the major problems society faces.
