| Cowboys fans: Training Camp report from BTB |
|
Overall, it sounds positive in San Antonio. The offense is loaded and barring injuries Cowboys fans should be optimistic about the upcoming season. The report is by position and gives a good sense of the present roster. http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2009/8/2/972795/dallas-cowboys-2009-training-camp

| 2. I think Dallas will surprise a lot of people this year... |
|
...it's a lock that they'll have a dominant defense (I'll take that risk), but the offense seems poised to have a breakout 2007-ish year...the tightends (Witten and Bennett) and the RBs (MB3, Jones, Choice) especially...it's going to be an interesting year in the NFC East. Romo sounds like he's having a good camp and Kitna appears to be a more than adequate back-up, something the Cowboys have lacked recently.

| 3. As a Giants fan I would say the Cowboys are destined for 3rd in the NFC East |
|
and will be lucky to make the playoffs. First off you have the handicap of a meddlesome owner. The Dallas coaching staff is questionable, as it is, and having an owner under cutting them is not a recipe for success. Then there are the areas of weakness. The biggest weakness on offense is the O-line. Football is won and lost in the trenches and so this is a glaring issue. To make matters worse they are going to have to face some of the most daunting D-lines by playing in the NFC East. Then there is counting on Roy Williams playing better than he has, in his 7 year career. On the defensive side of the ball they seem pretty solid. However the depth at CB is a worry and they certainly would be in trouble if either starter is injured for any period of time.

But it's a new season, and 13-3 wasn't that long ago (2007)...this team has matured at the skill positions, along with having a slew of super talented (but untried) rookies...we'll see...how are your Giants looking?
2008 was an anomaly, the OL broke down after the third game and Dallas never really got back on track. But you're right it all begins and ends in the trenches and for the Cowboys the OL is still a question mark.
