| Any other Colorado Avs fans here, watching their amazing late season comeback? |
|
They were down 10-12 points a few weeks ago and since the beginning of March are 8-1-1 (mostly road wins!). They're now within only 4 points of a playoff spot!
Best. Comeback. EVER!
It'll be a shame if they don't make the playoffs, because they're obviously a playoff caliber team.

| 1. Impressive,but not the best EVER. |

Especially considering they aren't even in yet.
If they do make it I'd hate to draw them in the first round. It's so tough for teams that have had playoff spots locked up for awhile to draw a team that's been in playoff mode for two months already, and the Avs will be peaking at the right time if they keep playing like this.
And I have to say that Joe Sakic is one of the classiest athletes I've ever had the joy to watch.

I can't imagine anything more obnoxious than watching those undeserving fans get another Cup.

| 4. Ha! It's real easy when you steal a team |
|
and they win a Cup in the first year.
Come back to me when you've gone 41 years without a Cup and tell me how great the Nordilanche fans are then!
WINGS ROCK.

The guy who bought the Avs claimed he really WANTED to keep the team in Canada, but alas, couldn't do it.
Then the first year they had a team they almost killed Kris Draper and got a cup! The FIRST YEAR. So much for all the fans in Quebec City who'd waited so long.

Marcel Aubut was trying to get a new arena built in Quebec and couldn't do it. I don't know which "guy" you are referring too, Comsat (owner of the Nuggets and set to build the Pepsi Center) made a public offer for the team to give him leverage under the condition that they would get his backing on the next round of expansion. The city stood firm and Aubut took the offer. It's an age old game, witness Mario's flirtation with KC. But the team was going SOMEWHERE other than Quebec, if not Denver most likely Nashville. Imagine how that would have infuriated those who think hockey should be a northern circle jerk. Funny how most of the recriminations about the Nordiques leaving don't come out of Quebec.
Since you are parroting the rhetoric that 95 was Year Zero here, you probably don't know we got screwed over in the same fashion losing our first NHL franchise the Rockies to New Jersey who have trouble drawing 20 years later. And we're one cup short in the balance and have to put up with the smug fans from "traditional" markets. But when the Devils kicked the Wings ass in the finals I never heard much in the way of sympathy for our plight. Or wanting to move the Pistons back to Ft Wayne or the Lions back to Portsmouth either.
So year we had to wait 13 years to get another team after the mismanaged Rockies which we waited plenty of time for and since we've had to have the snobbery and ignorance of Wingnuts foisted upon us.
Of course you have no qualms about acquiring a player who nearly killed one of our boys do you?

| 9. I do have qualms about that and have discussed it with a friend who |
|
is an Avs fan. I think Bertuzzi should have been kicked out of hockey. Of course, if it makes you feel any better, Bertuzzi has been completely ineffective so far, and also seems to be skating as if he's hearing footsteps (which he should be).
I will say this (and my Avs fan friend agrees) that the person who was probably to blame for both of those incidents was Marc Crawford - he clearly coaches players to play that way.
I just don't like being called self righteous! If it weren't for the Original Six, there would be no NHL today - the Original Six kept the league going.
I don't think it's the Avs fault that the Nordique couldn't stay in Quebec (the whole structure of hockey is at fault), but you have to admit their fans were handed something pretty good right out of the box. At that point, Detroiters hadn't seen a Cup since the mid-50s. I remember looking at my Dad's old Stanley Cup scrapbooks from when he was a kid, and thinking, maybe one day I can make a scrapbook like that. And then it happened! I will never ever forget that day.

You are saying we owe something to the Wings and by extension the Norris Family's union busting. Self-righteous, smug, snide, arrogant, call it what you will, but you are putting yourself above the everyone else. Facts the game is as much our's and we know it just as well as it is Detroit, Toronto or Kamloops.
Prior to 95 you may have had a shitty team, we had our shitty team taken from us. Who was really worse off?
This elitist attitude that hockey should be a northern circle jerk is a blight on the sport.

| 11. Well Colorado is pretty northern. |

It's true, I DON'T like hockey in NASCAR cities, or places where the ice melts starting in April. It's a northern game. I don't support your team being taken away from you, don't worry, I don't root for New Jersey! Don't forget, they had Pepe before you did. But Denver is cold enough for hockey, especially now that they have an arena with lights and ice (remember that game in McNichols Arena where they had to skew the periods because the ice was going?)

All the Wingnuts who fled Detroit in terror wouldn't have a place to watch hockey.
