Which performance-enhancer disappointed you the most?

Poll question: Which performance-enhancer disappointed you the most?

I'm including McGwire, Clemens, and Bonds even though they still have not admitted any use.


Bonds may be not guilty of lying to the grand jury, but it's pretty "clear" he was using.

For me, it was Palmiero. I actually believed him when he pointed his finger at the committee and said he didn't use that stuff.

I've never been under the delusion, nor have I really cared if, the sports business is entirely clean. Sure there should be testing and penalties of some sort, but there are things in sports that bother me far more than performing enhancing drugs.

He used to be my hero. I guess I feel similar about Tejada, but never really liked him as much. Too showboat-ty and too in to himself. But unlike some people when a hero of mine is revealed to be a fraud, I don't cling to him and ignore all reality.

11. Dancer's Image, for me

First Derby I anticipated as a kid, '68. Then a few days later, they said the other horse won. I'm wondering, what the hell kind of sport is this, cross the finish line first and they take it away from you?

Besides, in high school I memorized the Derby winners from 1875 forth. Now, when I run them down after the new winner is added to the list on Derby Day, or if someone by chance asks me to name the winner from '68, instead of a quick recital I have to provide two names -- Dancer's Image and Forward Pass -- plus the lame asterisk rationale.
