| Michigan fan rooting for Sparty tonight |
|
A win by MSU would be a big shot in the arm to a state that's been down on its luck for a while. Go Green! Go White!
(Oh, and State fans, I'm sure that I'll see this favor returned one day!)
Plus, I would love to see UNC lose. It would be doubly nice.

I appreciate both UNC and MSU and what they have accomplished this year but it would be nice for MSU to hold up that trophy tonight (long after my bedtime.)

I'm rooting for Sparty because I'm a Big-10 guy. Gotta stay loyal to the conference!

| 4. I would hope every Big Ten fan is rooting for MSU! |
|
I would think that Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin, Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Penn State fans are all pulling for Sparty tonight.

| 5. I'd hope so too. The Big Ten used to be way more collegial |
|
it changed at some point in the 1980s. When I was a kid, we wouldn't consider rooting against the Big Ten in a bowl or championship game. At some point (and I don't think it's just in the Big Ten) it got a lot uglier. Maybe this is a return to the old ways.

| 6. Here's what I don't get: |
|
I don't get it when I hear someone say that they also "like" Duke. Huh? How can a person who calls himself (or herself, of course) a fan of a college team "like" anyone else at all? It's one thing to pull for your conference (I root for Michigan over Notre Dame every year), but I don't get actually liking more than one team. Especially a team that is out of your conference.

| 7. I have some secondary favorites (though Duke is not one of them). |
|
I always liked Notre Dame because our family is Irish-Catholic, and we grew up in a pretty Protestant town, so it was fun to root for ND. Michigan State fans should also root for ND; they owe them a debt for putting MSU on their schedule in the 1950s so that State could get the creds to play in the Big Ten.
I also like a few other schools that are generally not opponents of Michigan. In pro sports, this is a little more true. I love the Tigers and Lions and Pistons and Wings, but I'll root for the Boston teams if the Detroit teams aren't in it, for example.
It doesn't trump what I feel for my home teams though. I've lived in Seattle for a while but I still don't consider myself a fan of the Mariners or Seahawks.

| 8. This Spartan says let's get this one for the whole Big Ten. |
|
Tired - damned tired - of our conference getting kicked in the teeth by the national media. Sparty has already taken on the best of the Big Least, and we knocked 'em senseless. I don't know if we can do that to NC, with its senior leadership. But, they have to play the game. We'll show up. Guaranteed.
