Is everything "drivel" that you don't agree with?
No, do you? In this case that piece IS drivel. When people here say that people such as yourself don't get it from 3,000 miles away it's because people such as yourself don't get it from 3,000 miles away. I know that truth hurts you, and makes us look conceited, but tough shit. It's the truth. Deal.
Are you suggesting that Youklis, because he's had a nice April, is somehow equivalent to Manny in terms of protecting Ortiz?
I don't know yet. This is his first chance to do so, and so far he's kicking ass. Youk's on base percentage is better than Manny's, and he's clearly one of the tougher outs to get in the league. He's not the deep threat Manny is, but not many in the league are.
Manny is one of the most feared hitters in the game, simple logic should tell you that his absence has and will be felt.
No one has said otherwise, but the thing you never acknowledge is the negative effect he had on the team in every other regard. His being called a cancer was no mistake. He was a sideshow year after year. A baby who needed to be coddled just so he wouldn't fake an injury to get out of a game. Maybe players who bail on their teammates because they have issues with management is cool in your world, but not many athletes will agree with you on that one. It's one thing to be pissed at the owners, but you don't bail on your teammates and take games off to pout. He did all those things, and much more. You seem to avoid that part of Manny's behavior like the plague, like team chemistry has nothing to do with how a team plays over the long run. If just stocking up on the best players was the key to success why has it failed so miserably for teams like the Yankees and NY Rangers when they were under Smith?
However, you have this weird Manny hatred going on..in which you refuse to acknowledge what he did for the team.
I do hate him, and there's nothing weird about it. And I'm hardly alone, and not just in Boston. As someone who played sports and literally bled for my teammates I find players like him to be beneath contempt. He disrespected his teammates, the ultimate sin in my view of sports. Those are the guys who bust their asses day in and day out for him as well as what he does for them. He spit on that team spirit because it's about him, not the team. The type of guy who seems right up your alley.
And you're full of shit about me not acknowledging what he did for the team. I just said he was a part of their success above. Can't you read? And I've said it before that. He's an awesome hitter, one of the best I've ever seen, and he was a big part of the Sox success. But it's ironic you talk of not acknowledging things when you ignore the bad things about Manny over and over. I find it all rather odd.
